Cesspool and Septic Repairs We Handle on Long Island
Our crew repairs the failures we see most often in Long Island cesspools and septic systems, from a cracked cover to a pool that has stopped draining. Each job starts with finding the real cause, so you pay to fix the problem once.
• Collapsed or cracked cesspool rings and domes. We excavate, remove the damaged sections and set new rings or a new dome and cover.
• Clogged or slow-draining leaching pools. We restore drainage where the pool can be saved, and tell you plainly when it can’t.
• Broken or blocked inlet and outlet lines. We clear or replace the pipe between your house, tank and pools.
• Septic tank baffle and lid repairs. We replace failed baffles, cracked lids and missing covers that let solids reach your leaching pools.
• Overflowing systems. We pump first to stop the backup, then diagnose why it happened.
Signs Your Cesspool Needs Repair
Most cesspool failures give warning signs before sewage reaches your basement. Call us if you notice any of these:
- Toilets, tubs or floor drains backing up or gurgling
- A sewage smell in the yard or near the cover •
- Soggy ground or unusually green grass over the pool
- A cesspool that fills up again soon after it was pumped
- Ground sinking or cracking around the cover
Sinking ground is an emergency. It can mean the dome or rings are collapsing. Keep children and pets away from the area and call (631) 260-3640.
Repair or Replace? We Give You a Straight Answer
Many older Long Island cesspools can still be repaired, and we always check that first. A cracked ring, a broken line or a clogged inlet is usually a repair. A pool that has failed completely, or one that keeps flooding even after pumping, usually needs replacing.
In Suffolk County, a failed cesspool generally can’t be replaced with another cesspool. The current sanitary code calls for a septic tank and leaching system instead. When replacement is the right call, we handle the excavation, permits and new system. You may also qualify for the Suffolk County Septic Improvement Program grant toward an upgraded system.
What Affects the Cost of Cesspool Repair
Cesspool repair costs on Long Island depend on what failed and how hard it is to reach. The main factors are:
- Type of repair. A line or baffle fix costs far less than replacing rings or a dome.
- Depth and access. Deep pools, and pools under driveways, decks or landscaping, take more digging and restoration.
- Number of pools. Many homes have two or more connected leaching pools.
- Permits. Some repairs and all replacements need county approval.
We don’t quote blind. Call (631) 260-3640, describe what you’re seeing, and we’ll give you a free quote.
