Jet Cesspool Service’s Expertise in Islandia

Islandia, NY is an incorporated village inside the Town of Islip, and most of it was never connected to a municipal sewer line. That means the cesspools and septic tanks under these properties are doing all the work, and they’ve been doing it for decades.

The village splits into two very different jobs for us. On the residential side — the homes along Sampson Avenue, Oak Forest Drive, and the streets running off Old Nichols Road — we’re mostly dealing with older cesspool systems on standard suburban lots, many of them original to the house. These need pumping every three to five years depending on household size, and the most common call we get is a slow drain or a wet patch in the yard that’s been ignored a season too long. When a system like that won’t draw down even after a full pump-out, it usually needs cesspool cleaning rather than routine service.

On the commercial side, Islandia’s office and light-industrial properties along the Long Island Expressway service road carry a completely different load. A building with fifty people using the restrooms daily fills a tank far faster than a four-person household, and those systems need a scheduled pumping cycle rather than a wait-and-see approach. We service both, and we size the truck and the schedule to the property.

One thing worth knowing: Islandia sits over the same sole-source aquifer that supplies drinking water to the rest of Suffolk County. That’s why the Suffolk County Department of Health Services tracks nitrogen discharge from residential systems so closely, and it’s why we pump and dispose according to county protocol rather than the cheapest available route.

What a Cesspool Pump-Out in Islandia Includes

Every pump-out we run in Islandia covers the same ground, whether it’s scheduled maintenance or a 2 a.m. backup.

We locate and open the system first. On older Islandia properties the cover is often buried under sod or a patio slab, and plenty of homeowners here have never known exactly where their cesspool sits — we find it before we charge for anything else.

Then we pump the full contents: solids off the bottom, the liquid, and the scum layer on top. A partial pump-out is the most common shortcut in this trade and it’s why some systems need service again within a year. We take everything.

With the tank empty we check the inlet and outlet, look at the sidewalls, and watch how fast the system draws down. That tells us whether you have a routine maintenance situation or a system heading for failure, and we’ll tell you which one it is before we leave.

Waste goes to a county-approved disposal facility. Nothing else is legal in Suffolk County, and we document it.

Our Recent Work in Islandia

Recently we were called to an Islandia property where the line had backed up and the cesspool had never been serviced — not once since the system went in. That makes for a longer job than a routine pump-out. The cover took time to locate, and years of untouched buildup meant the line had to be cleared before we could reach the tank at all.

Miguel, one of our trusted cesspool specialists, handled it. Miguel cleared the line first, then completed the pump-out once there was access to the system. They stayed on site into the early evening rather than leaving it half-finished and rebooking for the next day. The homeowner had a working system that night.

A job like that is bigger than scheduled maintenance because it combined line clearing, locating, and a full pump-out on a system that had never been emptied. A cesspool on a regular pumping schedule doesn’t get to that point.

Signs your Islandia cesspool needs pumping

Call if you notice any of these, if the system is overdue, or if more people are using it than usual.

Call (631) 260-3640
  • Slow drains all over

When sinks, tubs and toilets all drain slowly at the same time, the system itself is usually the problem, not a single clogged pipe.

  • Gurgling or backups

Gurgling toilets and water coming back up into a tub or floor drain mean wastewater has nowhere to go.

  • Sewage odor

A sewage smell in the yard or near the drains often means the cesspool or tank is full.

  • Wet ground over the system

Soggy soil, standing water or unusually green grass above the cesspool or tank can mean it is overflowing.

  • No pump-out in years

If you can't remember the last pump-out, or you just bought the house, it's time to have the system checked and emptied.

  • More people than usual

Guests, a growing family or a rental unit add water the system has to handle, so it fills sooner than it used to.

Why most Islandia homes depend on their own system

Most homes in Islandia aren’t on a public sewer and rely on a cesspool or septic system. Suffolk County’s sewer district maps put only about 8% of the village’s area inside a district, Sewer District No. 13 (Wind Watch), and some commercial properties are among the exceptions. For a typical Islandia house, everything that goes down the drain ends up in the system out back.

The typical home in Islandia was built around 1969 (U.S. Census, ACS 2020–2024), so plenty of village systems have been in service for decades. A pump-out is the one time the inside of the structure can be seen, which makes regular septic tank pumping in Islandia worth keeping on the calendar, whether your house is north of the Long Island Expressway or near the LIRR Ronkonkoma Branch along the village’s southern edge.

When an Islandia cesspool can't be saved

Sometimes a pump-out shows a cesspool that won’t draw down or keeps refilling. In Suffolk County, a failed cesspool can’t be replaced with another cesspool: since July 1, 2019 the minimum replacement is a septic tank feeding a leaching structure. New or expanded single-family homes have needed a nitrogen-reducing I/A system since July 1, 2021.

Grant money may cover part of the bill. Suffolk County’s Septic Improvement Program offers up to $20,000 per property toward an approved I/A system, and New York State adds up to $25,000, for up to $45,000 combined under the program announced in August 2026. Islandia homeowners whose houses aren’t on a sewer may qualify, so check eligibility at suffolkcountyny.gov/septicgrants before you commit. We’ll show you what we found in the ground so the decision is yours.

Cesspool & Septic Pumping in Islandia: FAQs

Don't see your question? Call (631) 260-3640.

Is Islandia on public sewers?

Mostly not. Most homes in Islandia aren't on a public sewer and rely on a cesspool or septic system; county maps show only about 8% of the village's area inside Sewer District No. 13 (Wind Watch).

Do you offer septic tank pumping in Islandia as well as cesspool pumping?

Yes. We pump cesspools and septic tanks for Islandia homes and commercial properties, and emergency calls are answered 24/7 at 631-260-3640.

Can I replace my failing Islandia cesspool with a new cesspool?

No. Since July 1, 2019, Suffolk County has required at least a septic tank ahead of the leaching structure when a failed cesspool is replaced, so a like-for-like cesspool swap is no longer allowed.

Are there grants for upgrading a cesspool in Islandia?

Possibly. Suffolk County's Septic Improvement Program (up to $20,000) and New York State (up to $25,000) offer grants toward nitrogen-reducing I/A systems, and eligible Islandia homeowners may qualify. Check eligibility with the county before you start.
